Dig, transplant and package trees
Gate(s) on the front of the tree spade open to allow access to the tree. Once around the tree, the gate(s) close and rear stabilizers on the machine are lowered to transfer weight onto the tree spade. Three or four individual blades (depending on model) are then lowered into the ground to cut the tree roots and create a rootball. The rear stabilizers are raised and the tree can be transplanted into a new location or placed into a wire basket.
With its compact, short tower design, the tree spade easily squeezes between closely-planted trees. Built for maximum durability, the reinforced attachment frame handles the bumps and bruises of a tough work environment. The tree spade works in a variety of soil conditions, maximizing worksite capabilities.

HCN tree spades can be mounted on a variety of machines, from walk-behind mini skid-steers, full-size skid-steers and track loaders, up to large wheel loaders and excavators. Each section will explain the key features and differences that allow you to find the right spade for
your unique purpose.
Available in 20, 36, and 44 inch models, the Truncated Tree Spade is ideal for creating wide-bottomed root balls for shallow-rooted trees.
The wide root ball gives the tree excellent stability once dug out, although at the cost of
addition weight.
Available in 36 up to 44 inch models, the Coned Tree Spade is ideal for digging tap-rooted trees or in sandy soil. The spade is almost completely closed at the bottom, minimizing soil loss. Due to the pointed shape, however, the root balls produced are less stable and balanced.
Available in all straight-blade sizes, the Semi-Truncated Tree Spade creates a root ball that is narrow than a Truncated spade but still stands well on its own. Semi-Truncated spades are the most common type of tree spade due to their versatility; they can down-size a great deal when digging smaller trees…
HCN ATTACHMENTS’s Palm Tree Spade can be made in a variety different of sizes.
Built with a “hand dug” root-ball shape in mind, our Palm Tree Spade is typically built on a 22º angle. This angle helps to keep the overall width as narrow as possible. The uniqueness of the design allows one to extract palm tree, shape the root-ball, shrink-wrap or basket the tree, and have it ready for shipping. Built with both the quality components and durability you have come to know and trust with every HCN product.
Palm Tree Spades can be customized with different blade lengths and configurations, to produce exactly the desired root ball. Optional trunk-locks firmly grasp the trunk of the palm-tree, keeping it stationary and upright within the spade.
